Two violins. One is a Josef Guarnerius copy violin. The other has no maker marks, but has a remarkable carved Beethoven scroll. They were bought in the hills outside of Parkersburg, West Virginia.   The first one is a Josef Guarnerius copy violin, marked as made in Bohemia. With a 14'' body and 23'' overall length, it is a 4/4 full size violin. One piece flamed maple back, sides, and neck. Rosewood fingerboard, ebony nut, tightly grained spruce top. The peg and peg holes are in good round.    It has some ordinary age and play wear, but looks good overall. Structurally, it is in fine shape. Functionally, it plays well.   The second one has no maker marks on it. It has a remarkable scroll carved to look like Ludwig Van Beethoven. The back of the peg box is also carved L.v. Beethoven. With a 14-1/4'' and 24-1/4'' overall length, it is a big 4/4 violin.   Unfortunately, this second one has some sloppy repairs on it. There is a lower bout treble side top crack that has been glued, but the two sides of the crack aren't registered quite right. There is another top crack on the upper bout treble side by the fingerboard. There is a messy neck heel repair. The neck heel cap isn't registered quite right. There is, or was, a screw or dowel glued in at the neck heel. There is a sliver of wood missing on the treble side of the neck heel repair. There is glue squeeze out in various places around the side where  the sides were reglued to the top. There is a ramp inserted underneath the fingerboard to set the action, of which the workmanship is okay, but not great.   It does play as is, but just isn't pretty like the other one.    It comes with two bows. One of the bows is interesting. It is stamped L. BAUSCH. Its frog is in subpar condition. There is a sliver of wood missing on it. The lower pearl has been glued back on poorly.  It is 28-1/2'' long. The other bow is a modern bow with no maker marks on it in decent condition.     They come in their original homemade
double fiddle case. The lid of the case is marked with the name of the
band, "Kitchen Pickers." There are also two West Virginia stickers on
the case lid and a Power Country 99 radio station sticker.     Questions?      It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap and shipped in a new 32"x19"x7" stout cardboard instrument box.      Please check out our eBay store, Time Travel Music, for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps, as well as fiddles, brass, woodwind, and various oddball musical instruments and old instrument brochures & catalogs).      And please check out our YouTube channel, /toadstoolshadow, to hear some of our original music.
